An Army jawan was killed and two others, including an officer, seriously injured in a gunfight with suspected Dima Halam Daogah (Jewel) militants in Assam's North Cachar Hills district, sources said on Thursday.

The army jawan, Sanjay Singh was killed and Lt Colonel Rajesh Shukla and jawan Mohinder Singh were injured when a group of about 12 DHD(J) militants attacked an Army camp at Langting last night, sources said.

A gunfight ensued with the security forces retaliating, officials said. The injured have been shifted to Guwahati Medical College and Hospital.

The area in Autonomous District Lok Sabha seat went to the polls on April 16. DHD(J) has been fighting for a separate state for Dimasa tribe in Assam.
