Not all love stories have happy endings. But not all of them end as tragically as 35-year-old Tatyasaheb Ravsaheb Patil and 24-year-old Rohini Gulab Kamble's did yesterday.
After they failed to cement a relationship because of opposition from their families, the two finally ended their lives by leaping in front of an oncoming Punjab Mail at Titwala station at 6.15 am on Thursday. They were rushed to Rukminibai Hospital by bystanders but were declared dead on arrival. The deceased had bought tickets from Nahur Station around 7.30 pm on Wednesday for Titwala. They spent the night at a hotel in the area before committing the fatal act the next morning.

Tatyasaheb stayed at New Gajanan Society, Ganga Vidya Mandir, Bhandup (W) and worked as a ticket-booking clerk at Kurla station. He had an affair with Rohini three years ago while both lived at Pratap Nagar in Bhandup. But because of objection by their families, they could not get married. Tatyasaheb eventually tied the knot with another girl and is survived by a two-year-old child, while Rohini remained unmarried. Having met again a few months ago at Bhandup, their affair got a fresh lease on life.
“They were madly in love with each other three years ago. But they parted ways after Tatyasaheb’s marriage. He had a happy married life until he met his ex-girlfriend once again recently,” said a friend of the deceased on condition of anonymity. After Tatyasaheb got married, he left Pratap Nagar and shifted with his family to New Gajanan Society. Arun Jagtap, senior inspector of Kalyan GRP, said, “They came in front of Punjab Mail around 6.15 am and committed suicide. We found a PAN card and a ticket for a Nahur-Titwala journey from the man’s shirt pocket.”
He added, “The motorman of Punjab Mail informed us the couple voluntarily came in front of the train. We’ve handed over the bodies to respective families.” “Just before leaping onto the tracks they were hugging each other and not looking at the train,” said a witness to the incident.u00a0
