The Razz-Ma-Tazz Drama Therapy Club changes lives with the use of dramatics

It's a trend that's catching on across the world and Pune is not far behind. With the Razz-Ma-Tazz Drama Therapy Club, drama therapy has made an appearance in our city.

Sarang Patil (34), chairman and MD of the Sunbeam Group, started the club with just six members in August 2008. Today, it has more than 350 members. "Using drama to tap the inner potential of an individual is our sole motive. We try to make them into good team managers and enhance their interpersonal skills through activities and games, so that they don't feel handicapped when it comes to communication at any point in their lives," said Patil.

Added Rachana Patil (28), a corporate trainer and the drama therapist, "Our drama therapy combines dramatics, linguistics, management skills and psychotherapy."

The 25-member core training team has extensive experience of over 10 years in the field of corporate and educational training.

The club is also brimming with nationalistic fervour. Their tag line goes 'Linguistically English, but Indian at Heart'. Radhika Jadhav (21), co-ordinator of Razz-Ma-Tazz, said, "Our street plays and mimes are based on Indian social issues. We want the new generation to be conscious of their Indian-ness and to instill in them a strong feeling of national pride, which is just confined to the recital of the national anthem these days.u00a0

"Drama is one such tool. It is highly educative, but more importantly it is understood by everyone. Our street plays Look Within, Ahimsa Parmodharma, among others were appreciated."

A Symbiosis student and member of the club, Ritika Singh (22), said, "It is a learning experience to be with the club. Though I don't act in the street plays, I am actively involved in organising them."
