There’s enough written about Aamir Khan’s Satyamev Jayate (SMJ) on Star Plus and aired simultaneously on various other channels. Similar shows have aired on Star News (now ABP News) and IBN7 in the past, but it required the presence of an Aamir Khan and a general entertainment channel like Star Plus to give the concept some scale.

SMJ has not done fantastically in terms of ratings, but it’s got its benefactors alright. These are in the form of sponsors as well as the Reliance Foundation for some valuable aid. More importantly, it has created an impact.
While the programme is impressive, what I particularly like is a show called ‘Asar’ that airs on ABP News on the week after a Satyamev episode.
Hosted by Kishore Ajwani, last night saw Aamir taking off from the SMJ edition that aired last Sunday. The actor made a clarion call to the public to not vote tainted politicians to the Lok Sabha.
I missed the first part of the show, but from the point I watched, there was Manish Sisodia who announced that AAP has withdrawn the ticket granted to two of the election candidates identified by NGO Association for Democratic Reforms (ADR) as tainted.
I quite like Ajwani’s understated style. I have been tracking his rise right from the days of Zee News where he was one of the faces of the channel.
What grabbed my attention then about him then was the info that one of his previous jobs was at ad agency Leo Burnett, where he spent three-odd years.
On digging more about him, I learnt he was an electronics engineer and had done his PG in international marketing (Delhi School of Economics) and communications (MICA, no less).
So may not be educated in a univ in the US or UK like the boys and girls of NDTV 24x7, but well-educated for sure. And that kinda reflects on his performance on the nightlies.
