Dolphin, a new ice cream joint and bakery in town will remind you of those parlours from your childhood that used to serve creamy pastries and colourful sundaes

As unexpected as it perhaps might be, Castle Street now holds a little surprise called Dolphin that promises to take you down memory lane. We landed here on a bright yet cool morning in search of some hot breakfast. What turned out though was hardly warm or breakfast-like.

Dolphin
Food: good
Service: prompt
Ambience: average

A bakery and ice cream parlour, Dolphin is one of those places that prefer to keep it simple with barely
there decor and functional, space saving furniture.

I settled for one of the many identical looking tables for four and browsed through what looked like a never ending menu full off sundaes with a section dedicated exclusively to Chocolate Sundaes. We opted for a misspelt Tiqila Sunrise (Rs 45), Orange and Vanilla ice cream scoops served with fruit.

The order came in a glassful with a vanilla scoop at the base and the orange one on top and oranges in between. The orange ice cream was reminiscent of orange cream biscuits and paired well with the tangyu00a0 fruits. We opted next for a Chocolate Pastry (Rs 45) and Buttercotch Pastry (Rs 45), they looked quite tempting at the colourful display counter. The Chocolate Pastry was spongy with layers of cocoa cream and chocolate that could remind you of tuck shop goodies from school. The Butterscotch Pastry had a strange mango-like flavour to it though.

Also, on offer are numerous munchies to choose from like puffs and pizza toasts for an evening snack. We decided to give the snacks a pass, the ice cream and pastries came in large sizes and had managed to fulfill both the sweet tooth and the tummy. Dolphin is one place that you can easily head to when your sweet tooth gets active and your wallet isn't particularly heavy. Sweet and simple most evidently seems the mantra here.

At: Dolphin, 17, Castle Street

Dolphin did not know we were there. The Guide reviews anonymously and pays for meals.
