Nearly 50 dogs were burnt to death by unidentified people on Wednesday after they allegedly killed their livestock in Keezhamur village near Melmaruvathur, about 50km from Chennai.

The incident came to light after a Chennai based NGO intervened in the matter.

Denying the incident, one of the villager admitted that the dogs have been attacking their sheep and goats following which few of their livestock died but despite that no villager can ever burn or injure any dog, she added.

Meanwhile, another villager said, "There are some 2-3 people who have burnt dogs but the entire village is being blamed". He also added that they are tired of the animal rights NGOs who continue to blame them for the incident.
