A speeding truck mowed down a two-year-old girl inside Jawahar Lal Nehru Stadium where construction work of a hostel is at full-swing ahead of the Commonwealth Games.

The deceased, identified as Versha, was sleeping on the ground inside the stadium when the 'killer' truck crushed her. She died on the spot.

A police officer said that the errant truck driver fled from the spot abandoning the vehicle. The culprit was identified as Sunil Kumar, a native of Himachal Pradesh.

"Sunil had brought some construction material into the stadium where hostels are being built. Versha's father Hari Ram informed the police about the incident. We have impounded the truck and have lodged an FIR against the errant driver," said a senior police officer. The officer said that an FIR was lodged with Lodhi Colony police station.
