India saw a single-day rise of 40,120 novel Coronavirus infections, taking the total tally 3,21,17,826, while the recovery rate rose to 97.46 per cent, the highest so far, according to the Union health ministry’s data updated on Friday morning.

The death toll climbed to 4,30,254 with 585 new fatalities, including 208 from Maharashtra and 160 from Kerala.
The ministry said the number of active cases has declined to 3,85,227 or 1.20 per cent of the total cases, the lowest percentage since March 2020. A decline of 2,760 cases has been recorded in the active Covid-19 caseload in a span of 24 hours, the data showed.
The daily positivity rate was recorded at 2.04 per cent. It has been below 3 per cent for the last 19 days. The weekly positivity rate was recorded at 2.13 per cent, according to the health ministry.
543 kids, teens infected in 11 days in Bengaluru
In the capital city of Karnataka, as many as 543 children and teenagers (in 0-19 years age group) tested positive for Covid-19 from August 1 to August 11, Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) said on Friday. However, no deaths were reported in this age group.
Most children were either asymptomatic or had mild symptoms, the BBMP said. Classes for students of Std 9 to Std 12 will begin from August 23 in two phases.
Lakshadweep curbs travel to mainland
The Lakshadweep adminis-tration has imposed curbs on the movement of locals travelling to the mainland in view of the Covid-19 situation in neighbouring states. An order issued by Lakshadweep district Collector S Asker Ali on Thursday also directed the authorities and officials concerned to give permission only for essential travel to the mainland.
Bhopal gets 3rd 24x7 vax centre
In a bid to speed up vaccina-tion, the Madhya Pradesh health department on Friday set up another 24x7 centre in Bhopal, an official said. Earlier, two such facilities were opened at Katju Hospital and Rashidiya School in Bhopal. Minister Vishvas Sarang said the new facility at Sardar Patel School will give people an option to take either doses of the vaccines and the registration can be done online or at the centre itself.
