Superintendent of Police Habib ul Hasan identified the policemen as Mukund Yadav and Sunil Dixit, who fought outside the Indira Gandhi Pratishtan where Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav was meeting industrialists.

The two were from the 10th battalion of the Provincial Armed Constabulary (PAC). Hasan said that while Head Constable Yadav was admitted to the Ram Manohar Lohia hospital, constable Dixit was in critical condition, with doctors saying his condition was a cause for concern.

The fight broke out on the road minutes after the conference ended. As stunned mediapersons, bystanders and police personnel watched, Yadav and Dixit swung their lathis fiercely at each other even as they took heavy blows. Both aimed their lathis at each other’s heads.

According to a preliminary version from police sources, the fight broke out after Yadav objected to Dixit being absent from his duty point during the CM’s visit.
