This is what Delhi Police Commissioner BK Gupta asked cops at Tilak Marg police station after finding several concerns during a surprise visit

Delhi's top cop has shed his uniform, at least for late hours. Police Commissioner BK Gupta, who took over the reins recently from YS Dadwal, appears firm on his mission to improve policing in the city. The CP has been making surprise visits at various police stations and sensitive areas in the city, in plain clothes, during the night.

According to sources, on one such visit at the Tilak Marg police station, the CP had a few unpleasant surprises in store for him. Reportedly, some officers were missing, others were sleeping on duty. The commissioner lost his cool and shouted at the Assistant Station House Officer (SHO) Brijmohan Bahuguna. "Ye thana hai ya barafkhana (is this a police station or an ice factory)?" Gupta asked Bahuguna, who was adjusting his uniform. The CP also scolded the Assistant SHO for not wearing his cap.

"I will teach you how to wear an official cap," he shouted. Gupta then asked Bahuguna to call the SHO.
"As soon as our SHO arrived before him, he shouted at him for doing a poor job. He said if a person who is walking outside is in trouble, he will never come inside because the police station looks like a barafkhana," said a source.

A part of the problem was that no one could recognise the CP as he was in plain clothes. Officials were asking each other that who was scolding the SHO. "Duty officials and other personnel came to know who he was only when his staff official arrived at the police station," said the source. The SHO has been transferred to district police lines.

Drive on

Delhi Police has identified ten corridors, including Connaught Place Outer Circle, in the Capital where it will ensure "zero tolerance" for traffic offences.
This was announced by City Police Commissioner B K Gupta in a post in Traffic Police's Facebook account. "We have identified ten corridors where we will ensure zero tolerance of traffic offences," Gupta said. After he took charge as Commissioner on November 10, Gupta said, police have initiated certain measures to improve traffic scenario in the city.
