Girls say they have been portrayed in bad light by the police and the media

Farima Yousufi Rad (26), who was arrested on the charges of assaulting Sub-Inspector Rao Ganesh G under the influence of alcohol, spoke exclusively to MiD DAY at the Parapanna Agrahara prison. Rad's friend Azar Faizle (28), said, "We are innocent and I'll prove it before the magistrate. We have been portrayed in negative light by the police and the media."

"We are not here to fight with the people. Who travels abroad to get into needless quarrel," Farima said.

A friend said that she wished the girls' ordeal would end. "We are willing to apologise in front of the media if it's required," she added.

The incident
On February 18, the car driven by the two Iranian students was flagged down by the Commercial Street police near M G Road around 11.30 am. Both girls were allegedly consuming liquor in the car, and neither of them had a driving licence. The girls were unable to produce the car's registration papers. The girls then quarreled with Sub-Inspector Rao Ganesh G and allegedly assaulted him. The were arrested but later granted bail on sureties of Rs 25000 each and a personal bond of Rs 30,000. They have been directed to visit the Commercial Steer police station every alternate Sunday.
