'Satisfied that we kept our promises'

Following the blast a major challenge before the district administration was to ensure that all victims get medical treatment as well as compensation declared by the state and central government. The authorities say all those affected, including relatives of the 17 killed — 7 of whom were foreigners — have received reparation.

“The state government had declared Rs 5 lakh each for the kin of the diseased and Rs 50 thousand each for those seriously injured. Within a few days of the tragedy we have identified close relatives and given them the compensation amount,” said Anil Pawar, resident collector of Pune.

When asked if it was challenging to reach relatives of the foreigners, he said, “Three of our officers were dedicated on that task. We were in constant touch with consulates of the respective countries, and through them we handed over reparation to all the dead and injured foreign victims.”

Apart from the state government, the Prime Minister’s Office had declared Rs 2 lakh each for kin of the dead and Rs 1 lakh for every person grievously wounded. The union home ministry had also announced compensation of Rs 3 lakh each for the deceased and Rs 3 lakh each for those injured.

“We had instantly dispatched compensation declared by the state government. On the other hand, it took some time for acquiring funds from the PMO as well as the home ministry,” added Pawar. The collector said that he is satisfied that people affected by the attack had received indemnity and his team had handled matters efficiently. u00a0
