12-year-old confesses to attempting to rape 4-year-old with 2 friends

This is twisted logic at its best or at its worst in this case. Jayant Shinde (12, name changed), who was arrested yesterday for trying to rape a four-year-old girl (see The incident), confessed to doing so because we wanted to be famous. Shinde's two friends Vikas Patkar (15), and Kunal Sawant (17, both name changed) were also arrested with him from Ramtekdi, Hadapsar.

"I have a habit of sniffing four bottles of whitener every day. My friends and I committed this crime because we wanted to create a big name for ourselves," Shinde told the police. He later said that Iqbal Munaf Sheikh, a hard-core criminal accused in 42 serious crimes, is his idol.

Ghajini look
Shinde was first detained on the description given by a woman called Smita Gaikwad whose chain was snatched on October 18. She had said that the boy who took her chain sported the Ghajini hairstyle. After interrogations, Shinde confessed to the attempt to rape and divulged the names of his two friends.

"We have arrested three minor suspects, all school dropouts for attempting to rape a toddler and later attacking her with stones," said Inspector Shivaji Kanase of Wanowari police station.

Shinde's mother, Aruna Mahendra Shinde, has also been arrested for trying to sell off the gold chain he stole.
