MBA student Priyanka says lover told her conceiving his child would force their parents to agree to their marriage demand

"I ended up getting physical with Anand only to end parental opposition to our marriage, as he convinced me conceiving his child would do the trick," she said yesterday.

Anand and Priyanka

Going into the events leading to Friday's wedding drama and its aftermath, the over-three-months pregnant Priyanka said she did not know whether to abort or raise the child as a single mother.

"I am undecided about my and my child's future," she said.

Priyanka, who has lodged a cheating case against Anand and an assault case against his family yesterday the Rajaji Nagar police arrested Anand's elder brother Shrinivas after she was thrown out of the wedding hall, said she and Anand had taken a holiday together in the hills three months ago.

"We had a love affair for the past three years but did not share a physical relationship. It was so until he convinced me to have physical relations in order to force our parents to agree to our marriage," she said. "It happened during a trip to the Nandi hills, some three months ago."

She also said she had neglected her studies because of her troubles. Anand is a BE dropout who works with his father, a civil contractor.

"I want justice but won't marry him," Priyanka said.

Priyanka is three months and eight days pregnant.

She said Anand's parents arranged his marriage with another girl out of greed for more dowry.

"Anand told me his parents had forced him to get engaged. So he suggested we have sex and I should conceive so as to break the arranged marriage," she said. "Later, I requested his family to let us marry, but they demanded Rs 10 lakh in dowry."

As she was unable to pay the dowry, Priyanka said Anand's parents arranged his marriage with Padma, a woman from Vijay Nagar.

Police 'inaction'
Priyanka said that on October 29 she registered a complaint with the Nandini Layout police station, but on which the police took no action to stop Anand's marriage. After wedding rituals were over at 9.30 am on November 13, the pregnant Priyanka entered the marriage hall and sought justice.
T Narayanappa, Priyanka's father, has demanded the suspension of Inspector Chandru and Sub Inspector Kemparaj. "There are two cheating cases registered against Anand in Nandini Layout police station. But insisting on a bribe, the police didn't do their job properly."
