Mumbai News LIVE Updates: Dearness allowance for MSRTC employees hiked to 53 per cent, announces Eknath Shinde

Deputy Chief Minister (CM) Eknath Shinde on Tuesday announced that the employees of the Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation (MSRTC) will receive a revised dearness allowance of 53 per cent of their basic salary from June, a rise from the current 46 per cent. During a meeting with the representatives from various MSRTC unions at the Sahyadri Guest House in Mumbai, Shinde also declared a series of employee welfare measures, including an accident insurance cover of Rs 1 crore and free travel passes for retired employees and their spouses for an entire year instead of the existing nine-month validity. The Konkan Railway is planning to explore ferrying passenger vehicles, like cars and SUVs, on board train wagons for those wanting to take their own vehicles and avoid highways this Ganapati festival season, on an experimental basis. "It is a fabulous idea and we shall definitely explore it. We have been carrying trucks for such a long period. The truck drivers that are on board them have to buy regular tickets to be permitted to travel. We can definitely think of passenger vehicles. We will, however, need to check and rework a few technicalities, as the wagons carrying trucks have mechanisms made to those specifications. But it is doable, and we will try it for this Ganapati festival season," said Santosh Kumar Jha, Chairman and Managing Director of Konkan Railway. Read more
