Even as the city is recovering from the intense second Covid-19 wave, at least two housing societies have gone without a single case by strictly following Covid-19 protocols. Residents of Mira Road-based Dev Prasad society and Vile Parle-based Labh-Samruddhi society have been collaborating and cooperating with each other since Covid-19 started to keep the virus at bay.

Purvi Shah, a resident of this society, said, “In the past almost one and a half years, not a single case has been found in our society. Cases were found in neighbouring societies but not in ours. We are taking proper care and following state government’s guidelines seriously. Nobody is forced to follow the rules in our society but everyone practises self-discipline. Without any work, none of the residents goes outside. No one has had relatives over. Also, all of us believe in cleanliness. We wear masks regularly and do not even congregate in groups.”

Essentials brought to door

Ajay Modi, a resident of Labh-Samruddhi society located at Bajaj Road, Vile Parle West, said, “When the lockdown was imposed on March 24 last year, we convened an emergency meeting of the society members and asked everyone to strictly follow all rules. We restricted the entry of outsiders and put all the details on the notice board. Maids, cooks and car drivers were not allowed till the government issued new guidelines.

“Thrice a week, we disinfect the whole society with high-quality sanitisers. Areas like the lift, staircase and compound are thoroughly cleaned. Essentials like vegetables, fruits, milk, medicine are sent to people’s floors with the help of security guards after proper sanitisation and disinfecting. The residents are contacted via intercom to pick up their parcels from the security guards in the lift. Anyone found with symptoms undergoes an RT-PCR test.

“After unlock began, we allowed milk, newspaper vendors and delivery of medicines inside the society. But car drivers are not allowed. Irrespective of lockdowns, we have to take care of ourselves and follow all protocols to keep others safe. The society members cooperate with us.”
