Raj Thackeray, MNS chief
Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) chief Raj Thackeray has warned that he and his party would not tolerate any future attempt to introduce the Hindi language from Std I to IV in schools across the state.
Speaking to media persons on Monday, Raj stated that the committee appointed under Dr Narendra Jadhav would have understood by now the message of the Marathi-speaking people of Maharashtra. The expert panel, headed by Dr Jadhav, an economist and former Rajya Sabha MP, was formed to study the language issue.
The state government has said it will act based on its findings and recommendations. Asked about Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis’ statement that it was the Uddhav Thackeray-led Maha Vikas Aghadi government that had accepted the three-language format, Raj, in a veiled manner, stood by his estranged cousin, Uddhav, saying, “I think it was meant for higher technical education. But, be it anyone, MNS will not tolerate any attempt to have Hindi imposed from Std I to IV.”
Meanwhile, leaders from the parties headed by Raj and Uddhav will soon decide on the plans for July 5, a day when a massive protest was to be held from Girgaon Chowpatty to Azad Maidan. “A victory conclave will be held. I will speak to my party leaders and inform them about the time and venue,” the MNS chief added.
As the government has cancelled the government resolution (GR) mandating three languages in schools, the protest rally planned on July 5 has been called off. “But, instead of a protest rally, we are contemplating a victory rally or conclave on the same day,” Shiv Sena (UBT) chief Uddhav Thackeray informed mediapersons.
Eknath Shinde states his stand
The Eknath Shinde-headed Shiv Sena conducted an executive body meeting of the party on Monday. In this meeting, members of the executive body proposed to elect Shinde as the chief leader of the party. The resolution was accepted unanimously. While addressing the party workers and leaders, the Sena chief and deputy chief minister said, “His party will not tolerate any compromise with Marathi-speaking people and their language. Shiv Sena is committed towards its voters and ideology.”
