Amid the gloom of the pandemic, the city witnessed a bright event on Friday wherein a newly wed couple decided to feed 150 orphans and senior citizens living in old age homes from a famous restaurant.

Santacruz resident Jheel Shah and Saurabh Navratna from Thane who currently lives in Singapore got married at a hotel in Powai. Jheel told mid-day, “We had invited around 250 people to our wedding and had made a booking with the hotel accordingly. But as my father tested positive just four days before the date, we postponed the same to January 7. However, in view of the rising number of cases, the civic body changed the guidelines and allowed only 50 guests at any event. The hotel then suggested we split the celebration over three-four days.”

In view of this, the couple decided to hold two-three events and invited some of their family and friends while the rest of the food was decided to be sent to old age homes and orphanages.

Jheel said, “We decided on this and told our parents about it. Then we contacted Smile Foundation which provided us with the contacts of the old age homes and orphans where we sent food packets.”

She concluded, “We are happy that our life together is starting with such a wonderful memory. We did not want to be superspreaders, so we decided to call less people and got the chance to donate food.”
