Versova has been in the spotlight recently due to a significant crackdown on encroachments. On Wednesday, BMC demolished illegally constructed buildings in Shiv Galli at Versova village. This follows previous demolition drives on June 3, 4, and 11, targeting structures built in ecologically sensitive marshlands and Coastal Regulation Zone (CRZ) areas. A special demolition squad was formed for these operations.
Assistant Municipal Commissioner Prithviraj Chavan was transferred abruptly on Friday. Commissioner Bhushan Gagrani said, “He was taking action, but his tenure of three years ended, and we aim to assemble a new team to address the issue.”
A social media message by BJP leader Mohit Kamboj on ‘X’ circulated within BMC circles and political spheres before being deleted. In the message addressed to CM Shinde, Kamboj accused a senior municipal official of record-breaking corruption and urged immediate action to curb it, warning of consequences for the government. No BMC official was ready to comment on the message that was circulated. When contacted by mid-day, Kamboj declined further comment, mentioning that he had deleted the message casually afterwards.
