The court has ordered magistrate custody to the accused and they were sent to Taloja Jail in Navi Mumbai.
BJP MLA Ganpat Gaikwad and other accused were produced in the Ulhasnagar court today in connection with the firing on Eknath Shinde group's city chief Mahesh Gaikwad at Ulhasnagar's Hillline police station.
After the arrest of MLA Ganpat Gaikwad in the firing case, the court had first ordered to keep him in police custody till February 14. Interestingly, today the accused were produced in the court at nine o'clock in the morning. The police had also imposed a curfew in the court area to prevent any untoward incident. A heavy police presence was also deployed at this time.
The Thane police on Tuesday night issued a circular section 144 imposed across the 200-meter area of Ulhasnagar court. No persons were allowed to get into the court premises and barricades were installed with heavy police bandobast to ensure law and order situation is maintained in the premises. "During last hearing followers of Ganpat Gaikwad had staged protest in support of Gaikwad. However, this time too they could come and repeat the same so precautionary measures were taken beforehand. Also, the followers of Mahesh Gaikwad, the victim, could also create a ruckus or may take revenge so the accused Ganpat Gaikwad was brought with tight security taking all precautionary measures," said a police officer.
