Civic officials reported the deaths of two women within the past 24 hours due to distinct incidents of ceiling plaster collapses in the Thane and Palghar districts of Maharashtra, stated the report in PTI.

According to the report, in Thane, a woman lost her life after the ceiling plaster of her residence in a chawl fell on her during the intervening night of Wednesday and Thursday. The Assistant Municipal Commissioner (Kalwa) Subodh Thanekar was quoted as saying that Chandrika Kunju (33) succumbed to her injuries in the hospital she was taken to after the accident.

He was quoted as saying, "Four family members were present in the house when the accident occurred, and it also resulted in injuries to a 65-year-old woman, who has been hospitalised."

Yasin Tadvi, the head of TMC's Disaster Management Cell, noted that the single-storey chawl, which is 23 years old and houses 13 tenements, has multiple cracks and is in a precarious condition.

Meanwhile, in another incident in Palghar's Virar area, a woman died on Wednesday evening due to injuries she sustained from a ceiling plaster collapse.

According to the report, Shital Pawar (34), who lived in the Manvelpada area of Virar, succumbed to her injuries while she was being treated. A police official was quoted in the report as saying, "She died during the course of treatment. The building in which she resided is only a decade old. An accidental death case has been registered, and further investigation is in progress."

Decomposed body of woman found

A highly decomposed body of a 30-year-old woman was found inside her rented house in Nalasopara East. The woman was brutally murdered and the suspect is her live-in partner Amol Dabholkar. He allegedly slit her throat and chopped her left ankle. Police have launched a manhunt to nab Dabholkar who is absconding.

According to the report, the cops suspect that the killer tried to chop off her body but got discouraged; he added that they will be confirmed once the accused is interrogated. Meanwhile another officer said that the killer had also tried to break the woman's bones since multiple fractures were found on the body.
