Has the rise in COVID-19 cases also affected the enthusiasm of senior citizens in coming out to take their shots? The figures from the past one week show poor turnout of beneficiaries aged above 60.

Earlier, about 20,000 senior citizens would turn up at vaccination centres daily, but past week, only about 10,000-12,000 came to get their anti-Coronavirus shots.

There has been a huge response from citizens aged 45 and above, as they form the majority of the beneficiaries for the vaccination.

A total of 50,594 beneficiaries were inoculated against novel Coronavirus at 118 civic and private vaccination centres across the city on Tuesday. However, this figure does not include the numbers of the second shift that starts after 5 pm, the BMC clarified. That figure will be added to Wednesday's data, it added.

Among the 50,594 beneficiaries, 12,260 were senior citizens, 35,978 were people aged 45 and above, 553 were healthcare workers. The number of frontline workers who got vaccinated on Tuesday stood at 1,803.

Since the vaccination drive started earlier this year, a total of 14,61,922 beneficiaries have been vaccinated. Out of these, 1,67,661 have been fully vaccinated with both the doses.
