TPR in Mumbai rises further, Covid-19 cases drop marginally

The Covid-19 test positivity rate in the city went up again on Friday, however, the daily cases declined marginally. According to the latest report of the Municipal Corporation (BMC), Mumbai registered 422 new cases, down from 441 the day before, and the TPR rose to 1.29 per cent.


The city’s TPR was 1.18 per cent on Thursday. The death toll in the city rose to 15,987, with the BMC confirming three more fatalities caused by Covid-19. All the three deceased patients were senior citizens and had comorbidities.



The doubling rate of infection in the city continued to deteriorate and was recorded at 1,416 days on Friday. However, the recovery rate remained constant at 97 per cent, after 303 more people recovered and went home.


Daily deaths rise in state

Maharashtra’s daily infection tally also dropped, but marginally, to 4,313 cases on Friday from 4,342 the day before. The number of fresh fatalities, however, rose to 92. On Thursday, state health department officials had confirmed 55 deaths.

The state’s case fatality rate remained constant at 2.12 per cent, and as many as 4,360 patients recovered and were discharged on Friday. Currently, the state has 50,466 active cases. 

Unlike the state and the city’s figures, the number of daily cases in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR) registered a marginal rise on Friday. As per the state report, 952 cases were reported in the MMR, including the ones from Mumbai. On Thursday, the figure stood at 902.

Panvel records 28 deaths

Panvel and Navi Mumbai reported 84 cases each, the maximum number of new Covid-19 cases in the MMR after Mumbai, followed by Raigad with 72 cases. Mira-Bhayandar reported 50 cases, Kalyan-Dombivli 63 and Vasai-Virar 34. 

The MMR, excluding Mumbai, registered 30 Covid-19 fatalities on Friday, a huge jump from  seven on Thursday. Panvel reported 28 deaths, highest in the MMR, and Thane Municipal Corporation two.
