CM Thackeray launches The Dharavi Model on Tuesday
A book capturing the civic corporation’s fight against COVID in Dharavi was released by Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray on Tuesday. The book, named after the much-acclaimed Dharavi Model, has been written by Kiran Dighavkar, the assistant municipal commissioner of G-North ward that includes Dharavi.

Dighavkar conceptualised the book last year after he was approached by many to tell his tales about containing COVID in the shantytown.
Sharing his experience of penning the book, Dighavkar said, “The thought behind this book was to document the real-life experiences and what all my team went through along with the large support that we received from community groups and NGOs to curtail the spread of COVID-19.”
The civic official added, “I had conceptualised it in December and I had just written few pages when the second wave hit us. It was during the second wave I could not write much as the focus was fighting the virus from spreading, which was done easily as we had our model in hand and it was this time around I was sure to have written the experiences of the second wave as well and thus more chapters were added.”
