A non-cognisable crime has been registered against Union Minister Kapil Patil for reportedly shouting at a police officer in Thane district during the India General Elections 2024 on May 20, according to an official on Wednesday.

Kapil Patil, Union Minister of State for Panchayati Raj, represents the Bhiwandi Lok Sabha constituency and is the BJP's nominee in this India General Elections 2024, reported PTI.

According to the report, the police sub-inspector's complaint stated that Patil and four others arrived at a voting station in Bhiwandi on May 20 due to some concerns. Bhiwandi and 12 other Maharashtra constituencies voted that day in the state's fifth and final phase of general elections.

According to the complaint, Patil yelled at the officer, intimidated him, and disrupted his job. According to this complaint, a senior police official has registered a non-cognisable offence against Patil under Indian Penal Code sections 186 (obstructing a public servant in the discharge of duty), 504 (intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of peace), and 506 (criminal intimidation), the PTI report added.

Per the news agency report, the police cannot lodge an FIR, investigate, or make an arrest in non-cognisable offences unless they have express authority or court orders.

Meanwhile, in another unrelated incident, Shiv Sena leader Shishir Shinde sought the resignation of party MP Gajanan Kirtikar on Wednesday, accusing him of undermining the interests of the party led by Chief Minister Eknath Shinde by speaking out in support of his son and Shiv Sena (UBT) Mumbai North West candidate Amol Kirtikar.

In a letter to the CM, Shinde claimed that Kirtikar insulted the former while defending his kid.

"Eknath Shinde is our leader and he should behave in an exemplary manner. We expected the same from a senior leader like Gajanan Kirtikar. Amol Kirtikar is your son and you can speak in his favour, but why defame our leader? He (Kirtikar) should not act in a way that will hurt the party or lead to confusion among people. This is my firm opinion," he added.

Kirtikar claimed that CM Shinde had offered to make his son Amol an MLC and asked him to the party.

"He refused because he is a loyalist." "I don't believe I have violated party discipline," he stated.
