An official said that eleven people, including five children, escaped unscathed after the multi-purpose vehicle (MPV) they were riding in caught fire in Thane, Maharashtra.
The MPV was going from Mumbai to Nashik when the driver discovered a fire at 11:45 p.m. on Thursday. He promptly braked and stopped the car, allowing all occupants, including five children and four women, to evacuate safely before it caught fire, reported PTI.

According to Yasin Tadvi, chief of the Thane civic body's Disaster Management Cell, the incident took place on the Eastern Express Highway, opposite Viviana Mall. Local firefighters and municipal rescuers responded quickly and extinguished the fire within half an hour. However, the car was totally destroyed, the report added.

The Pune police have requested permission from the Juvenile Justice Board (JJB) to investigate the minor allegedly involved in the Porsche crash that killed two tech professionals, an official said on Friday.
Police claim the 17-year-old was driving the luxury car while intoxicated when the accident occurred in Kalyani Nagar on May 19. The minor is currently in an observation home until June 5, reported PTI.
"We have written to the JJB seeking permission to probe the minor," said Shailesh Balkawade, additional commissioner of police (crime).
According to the PTI report, the JJB initially granted bail to the teenager, son of builder Vishal Agarwal, a few hours after the crash and instructed him to write a 300-word essay on road safety. Following heavy criticism, the police approached the JJB again, which then modified the order and sent the minor to an observation home until June 5.
The minor's father and grandfather have been arrested for allegedly confining their family driver, offering him cash and gifts, and later threatening him to take the blame for the crash, the report added.
Additionally, the police have arrested two doctors and a staff member from Sassoon General Hospital for allegedly manipulating the teenager's blood samples to show he was not drunk at the time of the accident.
