A Court in Thane on Thursday issued a non-bailable warrant against Mumbai's former commissioner of police (CP) Param Bir Singh in an extortion case registered earlier this year. Singh has been untraceable since multiple FIRs were filed mentioning him as an accused.

Issuing order on the application filed by Thane police, the chief judicial magistrate issued the non-bailable warrant to the senior inspector of Thane Nagar police station. Police have been directed to arrest Singh and produce him before court.

The development came hours after the crime branch of the Mumbai police moved an application in the Sessions court seeking a non-bailable warrant against Singh. The hearing on the application will take place on Friday. Thane police have written to their counterparts at Malabar Hill, seeking help to arrest Singh. The former CP's official residence is under the jurisdiction of Malabar Hill police station.

Singh, a Maharashtra-cadre officer of the 1988 batch of IPS, was transferred from the office of Mumbai CP and posted as commandant general of Home Guard. He had made allegations of corruption against the then home minister and senior NCP leader Anil Deshmukh. He faces multiple cases of extortion and misuse of CP office in Mumbai and Thane.
