The Kemps Corner bridge in south Mumbai was closed for vehicular movement for an hour on Wednesday, leading to traffic congestion, due to a technical issue.

According to civic officials, mastic on the joints of the structure crumbled around 3 pm.
A team from the bridges department of the BMC eventually inspected the site and declared the structure safe. Vehicular movement on the bridge resumed around 4 pm.

“We inspected the bridge. It is a minor issue, which we will rectify within a few days,” said Satish Thosar, chief of the bridges department.
The Kemps Corner bridge was in the news a few years ago when people spotted a ‘crack’ in the structure.
In 2018, a number of people shared pictures of the apparent crack on social media, which created panic. Later, BMC officials inspected the bridge and declared it safe. The civic body engineers termed the ‘crack’ a “design flaw”.
