Shiv Sena MP Rahul Shewale on Monday accused the Shiv Sena (UBT) and other parties of allegedly trying to mislead people about the Dharavi Redevelopment Project by spreading false propaganda. Addressing a press conference, Shewale claimed that the Sena (UBT) was trying to delay the project by talking about things that were technically not feasible or wouldn't happen.

The Shiv Sena leader assured that the Mahayuti government, comprising the Shiv Sena, BJP and NCP, is committed to redeveloping Dharavi as desired by its residents, and work on the project will commence soon. The government has already declared that all eligible people from Dharavi will be rehabilitated in the same area, while the ineligible residents will be housed nearby, Shewale said.
Earlier this month, the Maharashtra cabinet, led by Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, has given the green light to a proposal concerning the Dharavi redevelopment project. As part of this initiative, 283.40 acres of salt pan lands in Mumbai will be acquired from the Union government on a 99-year lease for rehabilitation purposes.
The market value of the 283.40 acres of lands will be recuperated from the special purpose vehicle (SPV) responsible for the Dharavi slum colony's redevelopment. Subsequently, these lands will be handed over to the Union government. Last July, the Maharashtra government formally awarded the Dharavi redevelopment project, spanning 259 hectares, to a firm within the Adani Group.
Shiv Sena (UBT) chief Uddhav Thackeray in December last year had said that the way Dharavi is been redeveloped is bad for Mumbai and Maharashtra. The Thackeray-led Shiv Sen and other opposition parties had alleged the Maharashtra government for bestowing favours on the Adani Group.
Meanwhile, residents of Mulund have started opposing the plan to rehabilitate Dharavi residents in Mulund, and Dharavi residents too, are opposed to the plan to move them. The state cabinet has decided to rehabilitate the residents of Dharavi who are not eligible for the Dharavi rehabilitation project in Mulund.
The state government has decided to use 64 acres of Mulund to rehabilitate eligible families for the Dharavi rehabilitation project.
