Police have arrested the grandfather of a 17-year-old who is accused of killing two people in the Pune car crash involving a Porsche. He was arrested for "wrongful confinement" of their family driver, according to an official on Saturday. The teenager's father, Vishal Agarwal, who is now in judicial custody for the Pune car crash, has also been named in the case, reported PTI.

Police Commissioner Amitesh Kumar claimed that an attempt was made to prove that the high-end car was not driven by the youngster at the time of the Pune car crash. Yerawada police have charged the teen's grandfather and father under IPC sections 365 (kidnapping with intent to covertly and wrongly imprison a person) and 368 (wrongfully concealing or keeping in captivity) after receiving a complaint from the family driver.

"After the car crash, the teen's grandfather and father allegedly kept the driver's phone with them and put him in confinement in his house on the premises of their bungalow from May 19 to May 20. The driver was freed by his wife," the official from the crime branch told PTI.

Following the Pune car crash, the grandfather and father allegedly took the driver's phone and confined him at their bungalow from 19 to 20 May. The driver's wife eventually freed him. The driver claimed he was pressured to take the blame for the accident.

Police Commissioner Amitesh Kumar stated that their investigation confirmed the minor was driving the car at the time of the Pune car crash. Evidence included security register entries showing the juvenile leaving the house with the car. The commissioner added that the minor was aware of the potential consequences of his actions, making IPC section 304 (culpable homicide not amounting to murder) applicable, the PTI reported.

"Why and under whose pressure did he say that would be disclosed at an appropriate time. For example, when the juvenile left the house, the entry on the security register shows that he left with the car. He was fully in his senses, he had full knowledge that due to his conduct, such an accident, where IPC section 304 is applicable, can happen," the officer said.

According to the report, the Porsche, allegedly driven by the intoxicated minor, struck and killed two motorbike riders, who were software engineers, in the Kalyani Nagar area of Pune early on 19 May.

A local court has remanded six accused of the Pune car crash, including the teenager's father, to judicial custody. The minor is in an observation home until 5 June. The parents of the deceased, who are from Madhya Pradesh, have requested that the Supreme Court oversee the investigation and hold the trial in their state, the report added.

Pune police have suspended two officers, including an inspector from Yerawada police station, for delayed reporting and dereliction of duty in the Pune car crash.
