A major power outage on Sunday morning has left parts of the city, including south Mumbai, without electricity and also brought local trains to a standstill.

Officials said a 220kv Mulund-Trombay transmission line has tripped which has affected the power supply to most of South Mumbai.

"Trains have not moved for over 20 minutes. No train has left Churchgate," Jay Dixit, a commuter said.

Western Railway chief public relations officer Sumit Thakur confirmed the development and said power supply had been affected and trains were not moving.

The Central Railway line along Mumbai CSMT was also affected. "Power supply tripped momentarily on HB and Main line from 9.49-52am. Trains are now running on all corridors," Central Railway chief public relations officer Shivaji Sutar said.

BMC officials said due to some technical issues, there has been power supply failure at many parts of the city.

"Our team is on the field to resolve the issue. The power supply is expected to be restored in an hour. We regret the inconvenience," an official said.
