Both the state government and BMC seem to have woken up to the bad state of roads in the state  and city at the fag end of the monsoon. At the Cabinet meeting on Tuesday, CM Uddhav Thackeray issued summons to ministers involved and civic, state and central agencies tasked with construction of roads, bridges and flyovers. Civic chief Iqbal Singh Chahal, too, held a meeting with ward officials, instructing them to take steps to fill potholes at the earliest.

The issue of potholes across the state came up for discussion in the Cabinet meeting on Tuesday, following which Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray issued summons to civic, state and central agencies tasked with construction of roads, bridges and flyovers on Wednesday.

Several ministers expressed shock over the bad state of roads in both urban and rural areas as well as state and national highways. Urban development minister Eknath Shinde, who had earlier ordered suspension of four senior engineers from Thane civic body over bad roads, suggested that steps be taken against erring engineers and contractors. He added that the suspension resulted in better quality road repair work.
