Two police officers sustained injuries in Palghar district as they tried to intercept a gang of transporting stolen cattle in vehicles, stated a report in PTI.

Reportedly, acting on a tip-off, a police patrol team intercepted the two vehicles and motorcycles towards Manor district at 5 am on Thursday.
In spite of their attempts to escape, the police seized an Innova, a Scorpio and two motorcycles, rescuing three cows and a buffalo bundled into the vehicles, the PTI report added. Two alleged accused in the case were also nabbed; they also recovered weapons including sickle, iron rods and a bag of stones from the seized vehicles.
According to the report, during the confrontation, the Innova car was speeding in an attempt to flee however it rammed into a bridge parapet, injuring sub-inspector Ravindra Wankhede.
Policeman Rakesh Patil sustained hand injuries while attempting to stop the other vehicle, the report stated.
The official was quoted as saying that there were nine persons involved in cattle theft; however, they could only arrest two. "While nine people were involved in the transportation of the stolen cattle, the police arrested two of them. The others took advantage of the darkness to escape from the spot," District Superintendent of Police (Palghar Rural) Balasaheb Patil told PTI.
The arrested persons, reportedly, confessed to stealing the animals from Navli and Bhagolepada in Palghar East.
The Palghar Police has filed two cases against the accused individuals including one for attempted murder under the Indian Penal Code, Arms Act, and Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act.

Iqbal Irani, an Ambivali resident and one of the suspects, was apprehended by the police; he was involved in 35 chain-snatching incidents in the city.
A police officer stated that they began a manhunt on November 1 after the accused stole the 76-year-old woman's mangalsutra in Andheri. Irani and another accused stole the woman's Rs 80,000 mangalsutra when they stopped close to her while riding a bike and later fled.
