In the ongoing Ganeshotsav, various mandals, like every year, have been demanding that potholes on the roads are filled and the bad patches, fixed. The civic administration, however, has stated that it has filled a total of 31,398 potholes which is about 1.56 lakh square meters of area on the roads of the city from April 9, 2021 to September 8, 2021.

Various measures are being taken by the civic administration to solve the problem of potholes on the roads. Among this, the cold mix manufactured at the corporation's asphalt plant at Worli is regularly supplied to the 24 administrative wards, as per their demand. A total of 2,696 metric tonnes which is about 1.07 lakh bags of the mix, has been distributed to the 24 administrative ward offices through the asphalt plant.

“Due to properties of bitumen on asphalt roads, potholes are a regular occurrence after contact with water during monsoon. In order to solve the potholes problem, the corporation has adopted a policy of cement concretisation of 6 metre wide roads in phases,” said a civic official.
