The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has attached the Thane house of a key accused, Arif Abubakar Shaikh alias Arif Bhaijaan, in a 2022 case involving fugitive gangster Dawood Ibrahim and his associates.

The house, located in Mangal Nagar in Mira Road, Thane, has been deemed "proceeds of crime" under Section 25 (1) of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, 1967.

Arif Abubakar Shaikh, along with Shabbir Abubakar Shaikh alias Shabbir Takla and Mohammad Salim Qureshi alias Salim Fruit, has been charged by the NIA. The agency has filed a chargesheet against the three accused.

Additionally, fugitive gangster Dawood Ibrahim Kaskar alias Shaikh Dawood Hassan and Shakeel Babu Mohiddin Shaikh alias Chota Shakeel are also named in the case and have been charged under relevant sections of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act and the Indian Penal Code.

Dawood Ibrahim and Shakeel are currently absconding, and efforts are being made to bring them to justice. The attachment of Arif Bhaijaan's house as "proceeds of terrorism" is a measure taken by the NIA to prevent the use of illegally acquired assets and to disrupt any financial networks associated with the accused.
