BMC confirms 693 new Covid-19 infections and 20 fatalities; state’s daily tally at 9,677

With 693 new Covid-19 cases, Mumbai on Friday saw a marginal drop in daily tally, but deaths doubled, as compared to the previous day. The test positivity rate also increased slightly to 2.24 per cent, from 2.20 per cent on Thursday.

The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) on Friday confirmed 20 Covid-19 fatalities in the city, and most of them had comorbidities. Sixteen deceased patients were co-morbid, five were in the age group of 40-59 years, and 13 were senior citizens.

The city had on Tuesday reported the lowest test positivity rate (TPR) in the second Covid-19 wave, at 1.76 per cent, and deaths dropped to single digit, but both rose again the very next day.
Recovery rate steady at 95%
The doubling rate of Coronavirus infections in the city dipped on Friday to 713 days, from 726 the day before. The recovery rate, however, remained steady at 95 per cent, and a total of 575 people returned home on Friday after being discharged.
Maharashtra also registered a slight drop in new Covid-19 cases, which had dropped below 10,000 on Wednesday. According to the state health department report, Maharashtra confirmed 9,677 new cases. The fresh Covid-19 fatalities dropped significantly to 156 from 197 on Thursday.
The case fatality rate in the state remained at 2 per cent, for the second consecutive day. A total of 10,138 people were discharged on Friday, after which the state had about 1.20 lakh active cases.
The downward trend in cases was also seen in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR), where a total of 2,076 cases were confirmed, including the ones reported in Mumbai. Panvel, with 148 cases, and Raigad, with 481, had the highest daily tally after Mumbai in the MMR.
Thane reported 93 new cases, Kalyan-Dombivli 100 and Navi Mumbai 140. The MMR, excluding Mumbai, registered 14 deaths, including 5 in Raigad — the highest after Mumbai. While Vasai-Virar reported four fatalities, Navi Mumbai registered one and Panvel two.
