New Covid-19 cases dip to 1,384 in Mumbai; TPR, deaths see drop too

The city saw a significant drop in both the test positivity rate (TPR) and daily cases on Thursday. As per the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation report, 1,384 new cases and 12 deaths were reported in the past 24 hours while the TPR dipped below 4 and was recorded at 3.25 per cent.


In the third wave, the highest TPR recorded in Mumbai was 29.9 per cent on January 6. Of the 12 deceased, eight had comorbidities. One of the deceased was aged between 40 and 59 while the remaining were above 60 years. Around 84 per cent of the patients testing positive on Thursday were asymptomatic and 184 patients were hospitalised, of whom 42 were in oxygen beds.


The recovery rate remained constant at 96 per cent as 5,686 patients were discharged. The doubling rate improved and was at 194 days. The state, too, saw a significant dip with 25,425 new cases and 42 deaths. The case fatality rate continued to dip and was at 1.86 per cent. A total of 36,708 people were discharged and active cases stood at 287,397 on Thursday.


The Mumbai Metropolitan Region registered a total of 3,515 infections. Thane and Navi Mumbai reported 299 and 635 cases, respectively—highest in MMR after Mumbai. While Raigad saw 295 cases and Vasai-Virar had 94 cases. Other than Mumbai, the MMR saw 13 deaths with five in Kalyan-Dombivli, four in Navi Mumbai, two in Thane, and one each in Raigad and Mira-Bhayandar. On Thursday, 72 new Omicron cases were reported in the state. So far, 2,930 Omicron cases have been reported, of which 1,592 have been discharged.
