Nawab Malik bought Kurla land dirt cheap from ‘93 blasts convict’: Devendra Fadnavis

Opposition leader Devendra Fadnavis has alleged that the minority affairs minister Nawab Malik has links with the underworld. He produced documents on Tuesday to claim that the minister’s company has bought three acres of prime land in Kurla at a throwaway price from two persons including a 1993 Mumbai serial blasts convict and a frontman of underworld don.

Addressing a media conference at the BJP state office, Fadnavis said one of the sellers, Sardar Shavali Khan, has been serving a life sentence in the Mumbai serial blasts case, while the other, Mohammed Salim Ishaq Patel, alias Salim Patel, was an aide of Dawood Ibrahim’s sister Haseena Parker, who used him as a front to grab properties.

“Both Patel and Parker were arrested in 2007. Malik’s company is Solidus Investments Private Limited. The minister, who was director of the company, has bought land from the killers of Mumbai. Faraz Malik signed the deal on behalf of the company which paid only Rs 20 lakh of the Rs 30 lakh agreed amount in 2005. Now, the company is getting Rs 1 crore in rent every month,” he said, adding that this was neither a Salim-Javed script nor the second half of any film, but a very serious matter of national security.

“The question is why did Malik buy land from these people? Was it because they wanted to prevent the land of the TADA accused from being confiscated by the government? Did the buyers pay black money? I have information on four more properties that will establish Malik’s underworld links. I’m submitting the evidence to the agencies and Malik’s party boss Sharad Pawar, CM Uddhav Thackeray and the Maharashtra governor,” said Fadnavis.

Fadnavis had promised to drop a bomb to expose Malik’s underworld links while exchanging charges and counter-charges. Malik has been making sensational claims on a daily basis in the drugs-on-cruise case.

Malik promises another ‘expose’ today

In response to Fadnavis, Malik said he will drop a hydrogen bomb on Wednesday to establish the ex-CM’s underworld links. “I will tell you about Fadnavis, who, as a CM, held Mumbai hostage using the underworld. An international don extorted the money when Fadnavis was the CM.”

The minister said the ex-CM’s sources were raw and that he was a tenant of the Kurla property. “If asked, I could have given him the papers [related to the alleged deal]. The charges against me are part of maligning me and my family,” said the minister, adding that his daughter would send the ex-CM a legal notice for making a claim that ganja was recovered from her husband.

He said the charge of creating fake tenancy of the land was false. “We were tenants there. We have a warehouse and some shops there. The land still has slums. The owner asked us to get the ownership. We bought the land from the owner, who had given a power of attorney to some person [Patel] for transacting the deal, which was registered legally by paying stamp duty and the price both parties agreed for.”

He said Sardar Khan’s father, who worked as watchman of Goawala Compound, had created his ownership claim on 300 sq meters of land. “We paid Khan a price to get the ownership right surrendered. We haven’t bought the land because we were pressured into it. Fadnavis has created a mountain out of a molehill. We will face the inquiry by an agency that Fadnavis approaches.” Devendra Fadnavis at the press conference on Tuesday.
