Navi Mumbai: Order to set up COVID centre on Ghansoli society premises cancelled

The hospital dedicated to severe COVID-19 patients will admit 11, and will have ventilator and ICU facilities

A day after a housing society in Ghansoli requested the Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) to not convert a hospital on its premises into a dedicated COVID centre, the civic body cancelled the order.

On April 4, NMMC commissioner Abhijeet Bangar had passed an order to set up a dedicated COVID-19 centre at Credence Care Hospital on the premises of the housing society Gee Cee Cloud 36 for severely ill patients.

The hospital was supposed to admit 11 such patients and have ventilator and ICU facilities, and was asked to arrange for the same at the earliest.

Risk of getting infected

However, considering that this would be a huge risk for all the residents of the society, they raised their voice against the decision.

Devesh Kumar, resident and member of the housing society management said, “As soon as we wrote to the NMMC, officials took cognisance of the matter and assured us of a positive response. Within a few hours, we received an order signed by the NMMC commissioner that setting up of the COVID centre had been cancelled.”

While revoking the decision, the NMMC stated, “Serious lapses have been observed on the part of the hospital, hence continuation of the said facility as a dedicated COVID hospital will create serious impediments in management of the critical patients”.

However, even after repeated attempts, the NMMC commissioner remained unavailable for comments.
