Despite the city receiving good rainfall for the last three days, the lakes, which supply water to the city, are still languishing.

The Tulsi Lake, which is within city limits, started overflowing on Friday morning, and Vihar is also filled up to 95 per cent. These lakes received 122 mm and 107 mm rain in 24 hours till 6 am on Saturday.
But they have a combined stock of two per cent of the overall water storage capacity of all seven lakes.
The other five lakes—Upper Vaitarna, Middle Vaitarna, Modak Sagar, Tansa and Bhatsa—are on the border of Thane and Nashik districts and have 98 per cent of storage capacity.
They received less than 19 mm rainfall in 24 hours. The water stock of all lakes is a mere 2.62 lakh million litres (ML) compared to 3.81 lakh ML in 2020.
