After recording more than 100 Covid-19 cases for two straight days, Mumbai reported 90 new infections on Thursday, taking the tally to 10,59,635. No fresh fatality was registered, keeping the death toll unchanged at 19,562, said a Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation bulletin.

The city’s positivity rate, or cases detected per 100 tests, was 0.011 per cent, while the recovery rate was 98 per cent, it said. As many as 8,862 tests were carried out in the city, taking their cumulative number to 1,68,76,617, the bulletin said. 


Of the 90 new cases, 87 patients were asymptomatic, while the remaining three were admitted in hospitals with  only one of them needing oxygen support. With 91 more patients recovering from the infection during the day, the count of recoveries jumped to 10,39,511, leaving the metropolis with 562 active cases, the bulletin said.


The case doubling rate of Mumbai was 8,861 days, while the growth rate of Covid-19 infections between April 22 and April 27 stood at 0.007 per cent, it said. At present, out of 26,044 hospital beds earmarked for coronavirus patients, only 10 beds are occupied in the city, according to the bulletin.

Meanwhile, Maharashtra recorded 165 new cases, of which 117 were from the Mumbai Metropolitan Region, and two fatalities on Thursday, the health department said. With this, the state’s Covid-19 tally rose to 78,77,429 and the death toll increased to 1,47,840. On Wednesday, the state had recorded 186 cases and no deaths.

Of the new fatalities, one each was recorded in Sindhudurg and Buldhana, it said. The bulletin added that 157 people recovered in the past 24 hours, taking the cumulative count to 77,28,628 and leaving the state with 961 active cases. The health department said 27,248 tests were conducted in the past 24 hours, pushing their overall tally to 8,01,36,614. Ratnagiri, Sidhudurg, Satara, Sangli, Jalna, Latur, Akola, Yavatmal, Wardha, Bhandara, Chandrapur have zero active cases, the department said.
