The city witnessed a significant jump in the Covid test positivity rate (TPR) along with daily new cases on Tuesday, as fresh infections went past 300. Mumbai also registered one death. According to the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), the city saw 327 new cases and a TPR of 0.86 per cent. The deceased was above 60 years of age and had comorbidities. The city’s recovery rate remained constant at 97 per cent, as 227 people were discharged after full recovery on Tuesday. The state saw a significant rise in new cases and Covid-19 fatalities. As per the state health department report, 825 cases were reported along with 14 deaths across the state.


The state’s case fatality rate remained constant at 2.12 per cent, and 792 people were discharged after full recovery on Tuesday. The state has 7,111 active cases.  The Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR) too saw a significant rise in new cases. As per the state report, 421 cases were reported in the MMR, including the ones from Mumbai. After Mumbai, Thane Municipal Corporation reported the maximum number of daily cases in the MMR at 29, followed by 19 cases in Navi Mumbai. While Panvel saw 13 cases, Vasai-Virar reported six cases each, Raigad saw 11 cases and Thane nine cases. The MMR, excluding Mumbai, registered three deaths—two in Kalyan-Dombivili and one in Panvel.


11 new Omicron cases in state


The state reported 11 new cases of the Omicron variant on Tuesday. With this, the state’s total Omicron cases reached 65. Out of these, 34 patients have been discharged following RT-PCR tests that turned negative. The 11 new cases were found through screening at the Mumbai International Airport. Of them, one each is from Kerala, Gujarat and Thane, while other patients are residents of Mumbai. Two kids are among the new cases. Apart from the children, all patients are fully vaccinated and are either asymptomatic or mildly symptomatic.
