BMC confirmed 13,648 new cases on Monday, down from 19,474 recorded on Sunday; TPR and deaths down, too

Mumbai registered a massive fall in the number of daily COVID-19 cases and the test positivity rate (TPR) on Monday. The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) confirmed 13,648 new infections and registered a TPR of 23.03 per cent, down from 19,474 and 28.53 per cent, respectively. At five, the daily death toll also declined.

All the five deceased had comorbidities and were senior citizens.
According to the BMC’s data, 83 per cent of the newly confirmed patients were asymptomatic.

Though marginal, there was also a drop in hospitalisation on Monday, at 798. The recovery rate improved and was at 87 per cent. On Monday, 27,214 patients were discharged across the city, significantly up from 8,063 the day before. The doubling rate, however, continued to dip and was at 37 days.
The state also registered a significant fall in both cases and deaths. The health department recorded 33,470 new cases and eight fatalities on Monday. The state’s case fatality rate continued to drop and was at 2.03 per cent. A total of 29,671 people were discharged during the day, leaving the state with 2,06,046 active cases.
The Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR) registered 23,811 cases. The Thane Municipal Corporation reported 2,423 cases, Navi Mumbai 2,020 Panvel 1,163 cases, Vasai-Virar 778 and Thane city 702. The MMR reported one death from Raigad, besides Mumbai.
On Friday, 31 new Omicron infections were confirmed in the state, including 28 from Pune Municipal Corporation. So far, the state has 1,247 Omicron cases and 467 patients have already been discharged.
