Mumbai saw 283 new Covid cases on Thursday, which was a drop of about 18 per cent over the previous day. At 37,517 tests, the test positivity rate remained at 0.75 per cent. The Coronavirus claimed two lives during the day, showed numbers released by the BMC. As per the state health department, 997 fresh infections were reported across Maharashtra with 28 fatalities.


The numbers had risen to 347 on Wednesday. Of the two deaths on Thursday, both patients had comorbidities and were above 60 years of age. The city witnessed zero deaths for the first time since the beginning of the pandemic on October 17. It was on August 16 that the numbers fell below 200 and recorded the second wave’s lowest daily cases. The doubling rate improved to 2,153 days on Thursday.



The city’s recovery rate remained constant at 97 per cent as 176 people recovered and were discharged during the day.  In the state, the new cases saw a marginal dip along with Covid fatalities. According to Maharashtra health department data, there were 997 new cases across the state along with 28 deaths.


The state’s case fatality rate remained constant at 2.12 per cent as 1,016 recovered and got discharged. Currently, the state has 18,465 active cases.  The Mumbai Metropolitan Region also saw a marginal drop in new cases. As per a state report, 475 cases were reported in the MMR including from Mumbai. 

Apart from Mumbai, Navi Mumbai reported the maximum number of daily cases in the MMR region with 34 new cases. It was followed by Kalyan-Dombivali with 29 and Thane Municipal Corporation reporting 27 cases. While Panvel saw 32 cases, Raigad had 9 cases and 17 people contracted the disease in Vasai-Virar.  MMR, excluding Mumbai, registered 10 deaths. While Kalyan-Dombivali saw seven fatalities, Thane, Navi Mumbai and Raigad saw one death each.
