A 20-year-old Zimbabwean student, who has enrolled herself in a college in India, was arrested after a bullet was found in her bag at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport here, an official said on Tuesday.

The official from Sahar police station said the female student, identified as Progress Marumbwa, claimed that the bullet was planted in her bag.

The woman was to proceed to Ludhiana to pursue her first-year BSc (Medical Lab Science) in a college.

The woman arrived in Mumbai on Sunday morning and was supposed to fly to Delhi, the official said.

However, the security staff found a bullet in her bag. “She was brought to the police station and arrested under the Arms Act. Further investigation is underway,” the official added.

On August 26, Mumbai police received a hoax call about a bomb planted at the Mumbai International Airport. When they traced the number, they realized the call was made by a 10-year-old boy from Satara.

According to the police the hoax call was received on the 112 emergency number on Thursday morning. The caller’s voice was soft, and it sounded like that of a child. The caller told the cops, “bomb rakha hai airport pe”, and then disconnected.

The police formed a team and traced the caller to the Satara area. The team first detained the parents of the boy who told them that their 10-year-old son was using the cell phone to play games.

“We checked the phone and found that the boy was playing games on it. He saw some videos on the internet in which a man-made hoax calls. He found the 112 emergency number and called immediately, claiming that he had placed a bomb at the airport and then disconnected,” said a police officer. He added that during the course of investigations, the police also found that the boy was undergoing treatment for a serious medical condition.

While the police initially registered an FIR, the boy hasn’t been detained or arrested as he is a minor. However, the police instructed his parents to take care of the child and teach him not to make such calls or engage in any other criminal activities. (With inputs from PTI)
