A 47-year-old woman committed suicide after killing her two differently abled children on Tuesday at her residence in Mira Road. According to the police, Nasin Bano, a resident of C2 building at Narendra Park, fed sleeping pills to her 21-year-old daughter Sadad Naaz and 13-year-old son Mohammad Arsh and killed herself after that.

Some of the neighbours told police that Bano and her husband Nasreen had separated a year ago, as the latter could not cope with the challenges of raising two differently abled children. Since her divorce, Bano was staying with her elderly father at Naya Nagar in Mira Road. The neighbours also told the police that Bano was depressed because of her divorce, and maybe that was the reason she took the drastic step.

According to the police, on Tuesday morning when Bano’s father noticed that his daughter and grandchildren were unconscious, he called the neighbours, who then rushed the trio to hospital. However, they were declared dead on arrival.

The police then registered a case of murder and suicide. A police officer said, “Their bodies have been sent for post-mortem and the cause of death will be known only after the report comes.” One of Bano’s neighbour, Mohammed Anjum Azaad said that the family spoke to him regularly and the woman’s father took care of both the kids. “Bano’s father has been in shock since the incident,” said Azaad.
