The deteriorating air quality across Mumbai and its suburbs is something that has now started to affect the majority of Mumbaikars. As per the Sameer App, the AQI during the late hours of Wednesday went all the way up to 198. However, the AQI readings on Thursday morning stood at 182.

People on Thursday yet again woke up to a smoggy morning that clearly depicted the worsening air quality across the city. With AQI levels continuing to upscale in the last few days, the temperature has not been signifying any difference since the last week, making the conditions relatively warmer.

As per the Indian Meteorological Department, Mumbai on Thursday will likely experience clear skies with maximum and minimum temperatures likely to be around 34 degrees Celsius and 23 degrees Celsius.

Mumbai weather continues to feel warm

Local weather observations from IMD Mumbai indicate that in Colaba, the minimum temperature is 23.9 degrees Celsius, while in Santacruz, the minimum temperature is 22.0 degrees Celsius, which is relatively higher as compared to last week.

Apart from Mumbai, other parts of Maharashtra continue to experience the winter with a significant drop in temperatures since last week.

Ratnagiri reported a minimum temperature of 21.5 degrees Celsius with 65 per cent humidity.

In Pune, the minimum temperature dipped to 14.6 degrees Celsius with 80 per cent humidity. On the other hand, Dahanu recorded a low of 21.2 degrees Celsius with 90 per cent humidity.

Mahabaleshwar, the hill station, on the other hand, remained one of the coolest in the region with a minimum of 14.1 degrees Celsius.

Mumbai AQI: A major concern

As per the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB), Mumbai’s AQI in the last 24 hours stayed in the ‘moderate’ category, with the AQI almost touching the 200 mark.

Mumbai on Thursday morning recorded an AQI of 182 (moderate category). This level of pollution is by far one of the worst recorded this year. With conditions expected to get even worse in the coming few days, it can be a major reason for adverse health effects, especially for sensitive groups.

AQI across Mumbai

  • Mulund – 286 (poor)
  • Mazgaon – 271 (poor)
  • Borivali East – 263 (poor)
  • Navy Nagar- 230 (poor)
  • Deonar- 221 (poor)
  • Chakala 219 (poor)
  • Kandivali – 217 (poor)
  • Chembur – 198 (moderate)
  • BKC-163 (moderate)
  • Colaba- 84 (good)

The air quality index from 0 to 100 is considered 'good', 100 to 200 'moderate', 200 to 300 'poor', 300 to 400 'very poor' and 400 to 500 or above 'severe'.
