Just a day after 43,000 people got vaccinated, the number dropped to less than 37,000 on Thursday owing to Mahashivratri celebrations. Of the 36,933 people who received the vaccines on Thursday, 25,260 were senior citizens and 4,004 were people with comorbidities.

The doses are being administered at vaccination centres set up at 30 public hospitals and 42 private facilities across the city. More than 42,702 beneficiaries had received the vaccine shots on Wednesday, and the same figure on Tuesday was 43,581.

“Though the number of centres and sessions were the same on Thursday, the number dropped probably because it was Mahashivratri,” said a BMC official.

So far, 4,50,781 people have taken their first dose, including 1,23,663 health care workers, 1,13,780 frontline workers, 1,90,294 senior citizens and 23,044 people aged between 45 and 59 years with comorbidities. A total of 62,905 health care and frontline workers have taken their second dose. Out of the 36,933 people who got the vaccines on Thursday, 21,000 were administered the dose at civic-run centres.
