Business magnate Mukesh Ambani has received two death threat within a span of 24 hours. The Gamdevi police have registered a complaint and have initiated investigations. Police officials said that the first threat was received at around 8.51 pm on Friday via email, which was sent to the industrialist’s personal email ID. The email, purportedly from a sender named Shadab Khan, said, “If you don’t give us 20 crore, we will kill you. We have the best shooters in India.”

It was seen by his executive assistant, who immediately notified the security head. The Gamdevi police were subsequently informed and an FIR was filed against sender of the email in the early hours of Saturday morning. Later on Saturday, another email was received at the same email ID, which said, “You have not responded to our email. Now the amount is Rs 200 crore. Otherwise, death warrant is signed.” Security officials at Antilla, Ambani’s residence in Mumbai, once again informed the police.

“A dedicated team from the Cyber police is working to track down the sender. Other methods of investigation are also underway,” said an officer with the Gamdevi police. The FIR has been registered under sections 387 (putting a person in fear of death or grievous hurt in order to commit extortion) and 506 (II) (criminal intimidation) of the Indian Penal Code, the officer added.

In the recent past, Ambani has received several death threats over the phone and email. Last year, the police had arrested a Bihar resident who had made anonymous calls threatening Ambani and his family members. The caller had specifically threatened to “blow up” the HN Reliance Foundation Hospital and Antilla. In 2021, an explosives-laden SUV was discovered near Ambani’s residence in south Mumbai.

The vehicle’s owner, businessman Mansukh Hiren, was subsequently found dead in a creek in Thane and the National Investigation Agency went on to arrest several police officers in connection with an alleged conspiracy to cook up the threat for furthering their own agendas.
