A few civic-run vaccination centres in the city will administer first doses to beneficiaries in the age group of 30 to 44 years on Saturday, the BMC body has said. On Friday, over 61,000 people received jabs.

Ever since the vaccination programme was opened to people above 18 years on May 1, it hasn’t moved smoothly. The drive had been halted in the second week.

The BMC said it will again open up its centres for the younger lot. Between 10 am and 3 pm on Saturday, the corporation said those in the 30-44 age bracket will get their first dose of Covishield. Online registration is a must for such beneficiaries.

Priyadarshini Park in Walkeshwar, Murli Deora Eye Hospital at Kamathipura, Acworth Leprosy in Wadala, Seth Ayurvedic-Sion, Bandra-Bhabha, MW Desai-Malad, Savitribai Phule-Borivali, Jolly Gymkhana-Ghatkopar, Deonar Maternity Home and VD Savarkar-Malad are the centres that will be delivering the first dose of Covishield.

Covaxin will not be available as the first dose at these centres, said the civic body. On Friday, of the total 61,710 jabs, 49,381 were administered by private centres - either in hospitals or at vaccine drives arranged in offices or housing societies.

BMC said 7,599 senior citizens were given the shots, while 13,230 doses were administered to people between 45 and 59 years and  40,307 given to people between 18-44 years. Thirty-seven lactating mothers and 3 foreign-bound students were also given the vaccines. Of the younger lot, 841 got their second dose at civic-run centres.

Vaccination will be held only through online registration on Saturday.
